The life each of us lives is the life within the limits of our own thinking. To have life more abundant, we must think in the limitless terms of abundance.

~Thomas Dreier

~*~

What is "The Abundant Life"?

Some may mistakenly believe that it is about wealth or prosperity. Others may believe it involves health and well being. However, the abundant life is not about wealth, health, or prosperity. It is not about bliss or freedom from suffering.  It is not even about life beyond death. Nor can we measure it by the quality, quantity, or length of a life. The abundant life is not a measure of life at all, but a way of living.  It is not about having, but about giving.

The abundant life is about abundant love and abundant giving; it involves trust, courage, and sacrifice. It shows in our willingness to give of ourselves freely and fully to others without expectations or qualifications, letting our lives and our love overflow to fill the voids and wants of a broken and hurting world. The abundant life reflects God's gifts of love and life, as they become fully present in our lives. Resting upon the hope and promises that in spite of death and suffering, life will prevail; that in spite of hatred and violence, love and peace will triumph, we live in the face of death and we love in spite of hatred. Living in the faith and assurance that God, who is the very source of our life and being, loves us, we are made free to live for others and to love others. The abundant life is the reflection of the abundance of God's love on earth, manifested in and through our lives.

Radiating the energy of peace and love out to all living beings
Take a few deep breaths to clear your mind
And focus on the here and now
This present moment
Now
Breathe in
Filling your being with peace and love
As you begin each line, breathe out slowly
Breathing these thoughts into the world
Reading, thinking, and feeling the words with peace and love
Sending them from your heart
Giving the energy to yourself and to all living beings
Breathe in and repeat the process for each line

HISTORIC!!!!!

January 16, 1938
Benny Goodman from Carnegie Hall
Original Recording

If you are a long time follower of my blog – first of all – THANK YOU! I really appreciate your company along this journey – and second of all – you know that Benny Goodman’s, Sing, Sing, Sing, is my most favorite swing song – and one of my most favorite songs of all time. LOVE IT! Really gets my juices flowing, toes tappin’, and booty swingin’.

Today we have a very special video that was created using the original recording, rare video footage and photos from Benny’s famous 1938 performance at Carnegie Hall. He was the first jazz musician to play Carnegie Hall and it is regarded as one of the most significant concerts in jazz history.

Apart from the historical significance of this video, it also gives us a chance to hear pianist Jess Stacy’s solo (as most recordings do not include it). Jess didn’t know in advance that he would be giving a solo that night. Just as he began playing you can hear Benny yell, “Yeah, Jess!” and the audience laugh. Of his solo it was said:

“When Goodman finished his solo, he unexpectedly gave a solo to pianist Jess Stacy. At the Carnegie Hall concert, after the usual theatrics, Jess Stacy was allowed to solo and, given the venue, what followed was appropriate," wrote David Rickert. "Used to just playing rhythm on the tune, he was unprepared for a turn in the spotlight, but what came out of his fingers was a graceful, impressionistic marvel with classical flourishes, yet still managed to swing. It was the best thing he ever did, and it's ironic that such a layered, nuanced performance came at the end of such a chaotic, bombastic tune....!´"”(Source)

Though the audio quality is poor, we still get a chance to hear the magic of that very special night with solos from tenor saxophonist Babe Russin, trumpeter Harry James, and Goodman, backed by the drummer Gene Krupa, and the unexpected solo by pianist Jess Stacy.

A note from the guy who lovingly put this video together:

“Thanks everybody for watching my little film. I had such good fun putting it together, I only wish that there was more of the original footage to work with. I have spent years looking, but I fear it is all lost… Jon Hancock” (Source)

Daedalus and Icarus by Lord Frederick Leighton

When we create or appreciate art,
we set free the spirit trapped within.
That is why art arouses such joy.
Art -
whether skillfully executed or not -
is the emotion,
the pleasure of expressing life as it is.
Those who see art
are moved by its passion and strength,
its intensity and beauty.
That is why it is impossible to separate life from art.
Political and economic developments
may seem to dominate the news,
but culture and education are the forces
that actually shape an age,
since they transform the human heart.

The whole culture is telling you to hurry,
while the art
tells you to take your time.
Always listen to the art.

Become aware of your beliefs and automatic default settings. Bring them into the light of your present, adult knowledge. Gently acknowledge that they are what they are. Then accept that they constitute what you've believed until now, and that you can transform them into beliefs that allow you to fully express who you really are. Without judgment, patiently begin working to change subconscious and limiting beliefs into true expressions of your authentic self.

The Courage to Be Yourself

~*~

An extremely important part of our work toward emotional growth and change will come from examining our belief systems regarding all areas of life. To gain the courage to be yourself, you need to address the beliefs that are keeping you stuck where you are. What beliefs, assumptions, and attitudes are you holding onto even though they no longer enhance your life? It is possible to free yourself from worn-out beliefs and acquire ones that bring happiness, strength, and self-esteem. What we believe we may become.

Most philosophies wrap their seekers in a strict belief system. By virtue of what they include, they exclude everything else, especially some vital realizations. Periodically revising our philosophy of life as we live it is, therefore, a critically valuable exercise.
