Nothing Gold Can Stay
by Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I used to read this as a rather sad poem
But as I've gotten older
I've come to see it as a call to take advantage of the here and now
To Savor the Moments
And
As life continues to change it encourages me to start anew and savor all the new moments of gold to come in my life.
It reminds me of my favorite quote of Captain Jean-Luc Picard
From the film, Star Trek: Generations
When, at the end of the film, he said:
"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived."
