Dwelling inwardly for extended periods, we come to know something of the poverty of always looking outside ourselves for happiness, understanding, and wisdom.  It's not that God, the environment, and other people cannot help us to be happy or to find satisfaction. It's just that our happiness, satisfaction, and our understanding, even of God, will be no deeper than our capacity to know ourselves inwardly, to encounter the outer world from the deep comfort that comes from being at home in one's own skin, from an intimate familiarity with the ways of one's own mind and body.

Dwelling in stillness and looking inward for some part of each day, we touch what is most real and reliable in ourselves and more easily overlooked and undeveloped. When we can be centered in ourselves, even for brief periods of time in the face of the pull of the outer world, not having to look elsewhere for something to fill us up or make us happy, we can be at home wherever we find ourselves, at peace with things as they are, moment by moment.

I invite you to join me now in this short Metta Prayer
Radiating the energy of peace and love out to all living beings
Take a few deep breaths to clear your mind
And focus on the here and now
This present moment
Now
Breathe in
Filling your being with peace and love
As you begin each line, breathe out slowly
Breathing these thoughts into the world
Reading, thinking, and feeling the words with peace and love
Sending them from your heart
Giving the energy to yourself and to all living beings
Breathe in and repeat the process for each line

Interpretation of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night by Alex Ruiz

Thanks to our Friend for sending us this beautiful art

~*~

When I heard the learn’d astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures,
were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams,
to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where
he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.

~Walt Whitman

Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high.
Then life seems almost enchanted after all.”

Photo Restoration and "Playing Around with Photos"
Has been a Passion of mine for decades
I'm sure a Photoshop expert
Could do what I do quickly and easily
I
On the other hand spend hours and hours
Trial and Error
Problem Solving
Trying to make what I want

Yesterday I had so much fun playing around with this image
It's a favorite of mine so I decided
To try to make it to fit my desktop
There were two problems with the picture

1.
It is taller than it is wide
I could still set it as my wallpaper
But most of the top would be cut off
In order for it to fit the width

2.
The photo is marred with marks
Perhaps made that way on purpose to appear vintage
But I wanted a cleaner image

Here is the original image again
Looks at all the marks over the image

Using mainly the clone tool
I painted the hill in the back with trees and bushes
And cleaned up the sky, water, and the guy's body
I also brightened and deepened the colors a bit

Here you can see the difference

Now
To make it wider
To perfectly fit the width of my desktop
I had a choice
I could add to the right
Painting in more sky and water
That would be fairly easy
But the composition would not be balanced

Or I could add to the left
Which would be far more difficult
As I would have to build and paint
The front of the rowboat

I chose to challenge myself
To see if I could complete the rowboat
And add more of the bluff on the left
The bluff would be easy easy
The rowboat - very challenging for me

So I searched for a photo of a row boat
To use as a guide as I shaped and painted the boat
I cut out the front of that boat
and added that layer on top of the original
I had to use the rotate, distort, and perspective tool
To get it to fit the original
I also had to add the lines of the boards of the boat
Also I need to get the shadows right

After hours of play
The front of the boat matched the back
I worked on the bluff
And brightened it to make it feel more sunny
So here is the result of hours of play
Now the photo fits my desktop perfectly
It's not perfect
The nose of the boat is a little wonky
But overall I am very pleased with it

UPDATE:

I decided to continue making improvements
I thought the boat looked better white
So Here is my latest rendition
I am NEVER finished with these projects
I just have to finally say - move on!
:  )

Here's the lastest - I'm still working on it

Watch the Change!!!!

I hope you enjoyed my journey

Dogmatism breeds intolerance. Like ideology, dogmatism puts blinders on what its adherents can see, disables their questioning faculties, and breeds fervor and fanaticism. . . Having an open mind does not mean that one never comes to any convictions in life. It is perfectly possible to have an open mind and live a very principled life, without holding one's beliefs dogmatically. Having an open mind means being prepared to question even your most central beliefs if there is occasion to do so. It means being open, when the time comes, to having your mind changed by an argument better than one's own. It means being able to think both sides of an issue, both the side you think is true and the side you think is false. It also means being able to suspend your beliefs, to play devil's advocate, and to detach yourself somewhat from your own beliefs, actions and feelings. Only living with an open mind gives us a chance to grow and change, for change is inevitable, while growth, unfortunately, is not.
