Mariella Devia is heaven sent
Her performance is supremely divine!

I Strongly URGE YOU to watch and listen
To this performance from beginning to end

Listen to the entire 12 minutes
There are many exquisite moments throughout

It opens with the soprano aria that was used
In the film, 'The Fifth Element' (Il dolce suono)
Around the 6:00 minute mark
she sings the gorgeous "Ardon gli incensi"
Around the 9:00 minute mark
She sings the amazing duet with the flute
This section ends on an astonishing and satisfying HIGH note!

Here's the story put simply:

(A Dysfunctional Family Reality Show!!!!!)
Lucia and Edgardo are in love
But Lucia's family hates Edgardo
They want her to marry Arturo
who can help raise the prestige of their family
Lucia and Edgardo make a secret marriage vow
to each other by exchanging rings
Later Lucia's family shows her a forged letter
that states Edgardo is promised to another
Lucia is crushed and wishes for death
The family forces Lucia
to sign a marriage contract with Arturo
When Edgardo shows up,
they show him the marriage contract
with Arturo that Lucia has signed
He throws away his ring and leaves
screaming in anger, again crushing Lucia

Here is where this video starts:
At the great hall of Lammermoor,
all the guests have arrived for the big wedding
It is then discovered that Lucia has killed Arturo and gone mad
She sings of her love for Edgardo and how happy they would be

But Mariella Devia gives a most impressive performance
Of a very difficult role
At this time, Mariella delivers my second favorite performance

Here's where we are in the story:

Yesterday, Lucia sang about her love for Edgardo

As she searched for the ring that Edgardo threw away
when he found Lucia had planned to marry Arturo,

Knowing she is about to die of a broken heart
Lucia sings that she will wait for Edgardo in heaven.
Then she dies.

At the 3:26 minute mark
Lucia sings "Spargi d'amaro pianto" -
her final aria - then dies

She sings: (English translation)

Sprinkle with bitter tears my earthly remains,
while in heaven above I pray for you.
To join with you
only then

will heaven be beautiful for me.
Oh yes!
