This is a bit embarrassing for me to share, but it was such an enlightening moment for me that I thought maybe you could benefit from hearing it.
I've been practicing being mindful of my thoughts and working to stop the negative self-talk within myself. When I see or hear something that annoys me, I immediately make negative comments about it to myself. I judge it. I Choose to let it annoy me. This morning, I caught myself at it again, so I chastized myself very HARSHLY in a very LOUD SILENT SCREAM! I immediately noticed how hurt I felt. I had hurt my own feelings. I realized I was being too tough on myself which led me to feel compassion for myself. So I gently and tenderly put my arms around myself and gave myself a hug. I apologized as I caressed my own face. I gave myself words of encouragement as I tweaked my own nose and tousled my own - well what would be hair if I had any. It felt good to show compassion and love and encouragement from me to me. I know giving oneself a hug and affection is something we don't normally see or hear about but this really helped me. The more Love, Comfort, Encouragement, Compassion I have for myself, the more I have for others. It all starts with me Loving me. This was a good learning moment.
So be good to yourself - be kind and patient. The better you treat yourself, the better you can treat others.
